CONNECTICUT FAMILIES IN CRISIS
PRISONERS' FAMILIES TELL GOVERNOR
"NO MORE!"

 DO NOT GIVE AWAY OUR BEST PRISONERS TO BALANCE YOUR BUDGET!

The Rumor Mill

The following statements are based on rumors submitted by our correspondents from around the state. The Prison Rumor Mill is comprised of both men in blue and men in tan and the rumors are sometimes surprisingly valid, often just based on hope.  Since we have no idea of the truth, we must stress again, At this point, the tidbits are not factoids, but merely rumors. We will identify rumors from facts as we learn more.

If you hear a rumor that bears repeating, or find the truth of one posted here,
please contact me:

R = RUMOR

F = FACT

R  Gates CI is closing in late August.

F:  The warden of Gates called a meeting and said that Gates is not closing. The Gates CO's don't believe him.

R:  Gates is going to become the overflow womens' prison - which would make sense, since there is only one women's facility, and it is right across the street from York.

R Anyone with more than a year to release or to parole is going to be shipped out of state.

 R:  At least 1000 prisoners will be released within the next few months. (above and beyond those finishing their sentences)

R.  New budget deal will let those already voted to parole out to halfway houses, or even supervised home release.

F:  500 people who were level 2 in Bridgeport (which is a level 4) were transferred out of Bridgeport to other level 2 facilities.

R:  The best rumor is that the transfer is on hold due to the $200 mil lawsuit against the state by a family of a man who died at Wallens Ridge.

R: DOC employees going back to 1999 date of hire will be affected by impending layoffs.

R. Rowland going to come out strong for alternative incarceration centers  (like it was his brilliant idea)
